OK folks, its that time again. FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As it is pre season, picking right now would be silly. But we can start up the trash talking. ;)
Skins seem to be looking good. We got all our starters back and improved the D line. Thank you Tuna! I have high hopes. And as usual, my boys are getting zero respect. I listen to the NFL network on Sirrius radio, and across the board, callers and comentators are placing the Skins 3rd or last in the NFC East. I guess they are forgetting we made it to the playoffs last year. Same team. And we have made improvements.
So when Jason Taylor ear holes Romo into another crying fit, we shall get the last laugh.

And as usual, my boys are getting zero respect.
So what better place to come than here with me. :D
Respect this, skin boy. :p
After Monday night, the Browns dont look so good.
I therefore will hold off on talking any trash till AFTER we see what will be...

I'm just wondering whether Chi-town even has a football team anymore.
C'mon having to pick your starting QB between Rex "I'm-seeing-the-ball-better-now" Grossman and Kyle "What's-with-the-fuzzy-stuff-on-your-face" Orton?!?!?!
It's gonna be a loooong season....
Hey Aye, it could be worse, you could be stuck with "Naw, I'm gonna quit, Hey!! I want to play again!!!" Favre.
Ayelandgirl
08-22-2008, 08:29 PM
That may be true Karen, but at least Favre can throw still throw the ol' pigskin!

First, many thanks to DD (Dandy Don) for starting the thread. As Tom said, it is a little early to be predicting, but trash talking is highly acceptable. It is well known that many drop in just to hear the Siber/Cowboy, DD/Skin commentary :D Think Ayeland may have a point. Had 49'ers/Bears last night for pre-season, and nothing was impressive for either team. As I type, I am watching Cowboys/Texans, and again, nothing exciting. I will suggest that IF Romo can keep his pants zipped, I am semi-comfortable at this time with the Cowboys, but my early money is going to the Chargers.
Hopefully Mike and Lisa and join with the "mile high" experience, and I sure miss Osver, the consumate Seahawk fan. Will prognosticate again, until than, very best to all.

Welcome back Tc2. Glad you survivewd another year. With your penchant for the underdog, you and Dandy Don can compare notes on the Redskins :D
I've got the Giants and tonight has potential to be the biggest massacre since Pickett's Charge.
Reminder of the only "rule" we have. If you miss a pick or so for whatever reason, just put it up and we will accept the result, no questions asked. Never have, never will. Will put my other picks up later. I have been out of town on a consult. As always, luck to all!! DF

Dinosauer Fishkeeper
09-08-2008, 08:54 PM
46"?? No wonder you are happy. And the "Boys looked right like a contender, at least early on. DF's "Bolts" let him down. On a recap note, remembering that there are two games tonight, we stand at a 3 Way tie with Tom, Lisa and Dino at 9, Mike and Siber at 7 and Karen and Tc2 at 4. Note to Karen: If you would have made a pick on Skins/Giants we can give you it if it was Giants. Hope that the hurricane parade leaves you alone for at least a bit.
Watch out for IKE Siber, they are talking Texas. The chances of me staying up tonight to watch both games are slim and none, even without having to go to work tomorrow. Vicki will be P.O.'d she did not get her picks in, after all, that is probably the only game "Da Bears" could /will win.
best to all and I will do the finals tomorrow. DF

09-09-2008, 01:22 AM
Well DF, I didn't think da Bears could've pulled one out this year (especially against Indy). Manning just didn't have "it" last night. The fact that they won is pure luck. I will say that Orton looked a heck of a lot better than Grossman, but that's probably not saying much. Forte' did impress with his speed and evasive moves while Hester just made a fool of himself by trying the "Possum Play" *sigh* Ah well, there's time for them to lose next week.

Hmmmm, I wonder if Ike can make it to Dallas... ;)
Well, I havent been able to get on this thing since Thu. I would have sucked anyway. LOL
As for my Skins. Aside from that first drive, the defense seemed fine. But as always we cant seem to score. *sigh*
As for the girls...no offense Tom, but they were playing the Browns. Whi WILL be owned by the Steelers. Hehehehehehe. (OK, so maybe I did mean some offense there. ;) )

Howdy Don! I figured Zorn would have called you up to Redskins Park to help with his offense, or lack thereof) :p Finals for week one: Totally never happened before in my memory. 3 Way tie before Monday games became a 2 way with Tom and Lisa. Now the weird stuff, both had Broncos and both posted 42 as total points. Got to call it a draw. Best of luck with week 2,
and I don't think I'll reserve any Patriots SB tickets.

Tom and Siber tied with 8 picks, DF and Karen tied with 7 picks and Tc2 with 6.
Well, at least with the no need for the tie-breaker this week, should be in bed quite early! ;)
Very best to all as always. DF
p.s. Don still celebrating from last week?

Hmmmm...not to question our Esteemed FB/FB moderator, but...methinks Tom & I are tied with 9??? Both of us have Saints tonight, so looks like a points based tie breaker?

A very alert Vicki has pointed out a "Dino Boo Boo"! :o
Tom and Ayeland are tied at 9, and as both have the Saints, it will come down to a total point. *Cutting the excitement with a knife*

Well...after a bit of false hope, I must acknowledge defeat and turn the Island over to Aye. I enjoyed it...just remember...I will return. (Where have we heard this before)

It was a good battle Tom. I couldn't believe I had picked that many winners this week. I poured over the results three times before I was sure!
Since I am going on away for the rest of the week - Hubster & I are heading up to northeastern Michigan for a few days - I will open up the Island to all! During my stay this past week, I had the natives install another hot tub/spa - which is for human use only! (Siber - no more fishies in the spa! ;) ) ENJOY!!!
(I will post up my picks for Week 6 by tomorrow afternoon *fingers crossed*)
Tom, I am so sorry about what the NFC East is doing to your guys. Giants 35 Browns 7
Doesnt help that we suck.
Coach is worthless. Bunch of guys who had one lucky year and got waaaay too much swagger...and a million dollar quarterback they havent played more than a few minutes in a couple years....

Afternoon all. In the years we have been doing this, there has always been one weekend where, teams that should have won, didn't, and teams that should have lost, didn't. I submit this past weekend qualifies! Barring any challenges, Tc2, comes away with 9 winners, great job.
Dandy Don, Siber and Tom are tied with 8, Karen and DF with 7 each, and Ayeland with 5.
Very best to all as always. DF
*ahem*....DF, would you like to borrow my "water" bottle? What's that saying...even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while? Island's open for anyone who wants to have Monday night fiesta. Looking forward to the Browns knocking the smirk off of plaxicos mug.
Hey Tc, I always say "any given team can be beaten at any given time." Just look at the Patriots. *smirk* I'll bring the guacomole for the fiesta and I'm with you GO BROWNS!!!!
Tc...I am comin over for one of them ceegars. I had the Browns and 49 points.
Browns win 35-14
Thats 49 points. I dont win but it IS close enough for a stogie aint it?
Well, that was fun, for the better part of 3 quarters I thought the browns were playing the broncos in denver with all the calls, especially the illegal chuck call WHILE Eli was fumbling at the end of the fiirst half.
Tom, if the browns had won 3 - 0 that would have been close enough for a stogie IMO. In other words, any reason is good enough for a stogie. Guess I'd better stock up.
Karen, I'm starting to get the impression you don't much care for the pats, could it be all the brady boy hype that we still hear every game?
Gotta love the game!!

Thanks Tom. Both defenses showed, but neither offense. I believe we got lucky on that one.
Anyway, I went ahead and counted the wins. Double check, but I think it goes like this. Me with 9. Tc with 8. DF and Siber with 7 and Tom with 6. I didnt see that anyone else posted any picks this week.
If I got that right, Tc and I could end up in a tie if Denver loses. So it could come down to points.
OK, I just cant resist...*snickers at the Dallas score*
Congratulations Don, the Monday night game is the tie breaker if I'm not mistaken with the points being the second tie breaker. In other words you won thanks to Cleveland giving the skins the game  Enjoy the island, I left a couple stogies for ya.
That being said, now I hope denver thumps the Patriots. Speaking of Denver, anyone seen Mike and Lisa? They haven't posted any picks for a few weeks.

First of all, congratulations Don, and how about those redskins? Guess we saw what they are made of, talk about having your arse handed to you. And the steelers offence looked good once their overrated qb left. Sorry all, couldn't resist. OK, I'm not sorry.
Now for the fun, picks with some commentary just for Don ;).

If I offended anyone, I will be happy to remove the commentary.

Well Tom, I'll admit I was wrong, Quinn played a pretty good game from what I heard. I couldn't watch the game as it was not on network TV.
And Karen, I took the Broncos too, if Quinn wasn't starting, I would have taken the Browns. There is a reason he did not go in the first round - accuracy, and it will rear it's ugly head if he continues to start. And since I know you're a die hard steelers fan, hopefully leftwich will start Sunday against the colts in place of rottenbooger. I don't understand, if the overpaid, overrated quarterback is hurt, why keep playing him as that only hurts the team?? Can somebody explain that too me? Just qurious.
Frank...Quinn looked decent...but he isnt the answer.
For the second straight game the Browns showed true charity and amazing skill and snatched humiliating defeat from the iron jaws of certain victory.
Two touchdowns is a pretty decent lead going into the fourth quarter. And we realize that from time to time a team will melt down and lose such a game. It happens. But WE are CLEVELAND. We did it twice in a row. We truly ARE special.
Romeo Crennel, hitherto known as The Walrus, is an enigma. There are times I think this man is truly a genius...and other times I think that he is a blithering idiot. People here want Bill Cowher to come out of retirement and take the helm. I dont think thats the answer. It is deeper than just a coach. The defense runs out of gas. These kids have talent but they dont have a true playmaker. I hate the Morons and I really hate Ray Lewis, but I have to give him his due.... We have a beast in Shawn Rogers, Corey Williams is good on that front line as well...Kamerion Wimbley COULD be but needs an intangible something...the rest needs a kick in the arse...
Worthlessberger is gonna play. They paid him too much. And grudgingly I must admit the man can play although he isnt the end all solution that is worth a 9 digit contract.

TC2, Worthlessburger has to play to earn his money. I'm with Tom, it takes a whole team to win, not just the QB. If any of the players from any of today's teams were to be sent back in time to play they would all be benched. Football used to be a hard hitting, hard played game with no "taking a knee" in the final minutes. Players and coaches would play unitl the buzzer sounded or the Fat Lady sang. QB's could take a hit and keep on going or dish out a hit or two of their own. those guys truly earned every penny they made every Sunday... and they were Proud to play. Nowadays, players think they should get mega bucks whether they put it all on the line on Sundays or not. Then cry and bad mouth the team when they don't.
Sorry, didn't mean to drag out the soap box, but I grew up watching real football teams with real coaches. Don Shula, Chuck Knoll, Tom Landry, MIke Ditka.... you get the idea.
Don D
11-09-2008, 05:58 PM
OK, totally didnt know the Thursday games were starting. I would have taken the Broncos and here is why. Wellllll, Tom put it quite nicely. For some reason, the Browns cant manage to hold onto a lead and the coaching is a riddle wrapped up in an enigma. Your boys do have some talent and it showed last year. Clueless as to why they are tanking this year.
Big ben plays his butt off IMO. I can fully see him taping a broken pinky to the other finger and plowing on. I think he is cut from the same cloth as Favre. The toughness cloth I mean, not the talent. he is damn good, but not THAT good.
My guys. I think Campbell is VERY over rated. Yes he went plenty of games Sithout an interception. But how many times did he throw a pass over 15 or 20 yards? He seems to be a decent QB at best. We need something more than that. His ability to grab the team and carry it on a drive is NON EXISTENT.
Anyway, my picks.
Saints-Falcons...Yeah, the Saints have been under achieving. But I think Breeze can carry them through. Saints
Titans-Bears...Dont think the Bears can win this one. Titans
Jags-Lions...They may be due, but not this week. Jags
Morons-Texans...Argh, Morons
Seahawks-Dolphins...Dolphins
Packers-Vikings...Packers
Bills-Patriots...This should actually be a good one. Patriots
Rams-Jets...Brett all the way Jets
Panthers-Raiders...Panthers
Steelers-Colts...OK, Willi Parker isnt playing. Ben is dinged. But I still think the D can handle the Colts as they are stumbling. And the Colts D isnt anywhere near what it needs to be. Steelers
Chiefs-Chargers...Chiefs cant pull out another one can they? Nah, chargers
Giants-Eagles...Gonna be a good one. Gmen

Niners-Cards...Cards 35 Niners 10

hey, can we call it a week?? :D Or do we have to wait for Sundays results? :(
I'd be OK if we just had Thursday games...saw the highlihgts, looked like a fun game to watch. They were saying after the coin toss for OT, Randy Moss looked at Favre and "asked" him to throw an interception. Favre supposedly laughed and went looking for Moss after the field goal. You have to admit, that man seems to honestly love playing the game.
By the way, nice to see you zip....
and tom, that's basically what I looked like after the island stay.... except there were chicken wings all around me....well, the bones anyway.

Df, how do we rank the tie game between the Eagles and the Bengals?
I missed a game too dang it. I forgot the Titans-Jags game. I would have taken the Jaguars. *sigh*
Ayelandgirl
11-17-2008, 02:06 PM
Ooo..that's a good question Karen! I don't think I remember ever having a tie game since I've been doing FB/FB.
Aye, I would guess since no one picked the tie, we all lost the game. Of course, we could say we meant to pick a tie, (just in case it counts) In all seriousness, would've picked the cowboys - redskins to end in a tie long before eagles - bengals.
Ayelandgirl
11-17-2008, 03:58 PM
That would be OK with me. It's like throwing that game out completely.
Well, technically, those that picked the Eagles have a win and those that picked the Bengals have a win and the opposite is true for the loss. I don't know how Df will take that into account. Either way I did well for the first time with 9 wins without that game, so it doesn't matter to me if it's thrown out. :) I'm satisfied with the 9.
I don't understand why they didn't play in overtime at least once if not twice.

Well as scorekeeper, this week has been as much fun as a Florida election! ;)
Thought long and hard, but score totals posted reflect a win for all in the tie
Eagles-Bengals (figured we could all use whatever wins we get)!!!! :D
We are going into tonight with a tie, Tc2 and Siber with 13, different winner picks. Tc2 with the Bills, Siber with the Browns. Don with 12 (I gave him credit for a Jets pick), DF with 11 Karen, got you down for 9 wins! :) Ayeland with 10
and Tom with 7.
Have a good week all, and I will post congrats for the overall winner tomorrow.
DF
If I get credit for a win in the Eagles-Bengals game then I have 10 wins. :D
the first 9 are
Colts
Saints
Dophins
giants
bucks
49err's
Cardinals
Steelers
Cowboys
I had a loss as I would have picked the Jags over the Titans though I forgot to post it.
