A RES walked into my warehouse at work. The wife then carried it home into my life. :) I figure it came from Mingo Creek that runs behind my place of work. It was just a tad bigger than a .50 cent coin.

Once home I setup a old 29g with some live plants, driftwood, gravel, small floating dock, a 60 watt bulb and fixture for basking and a 100 watt heater. Along with a Whisper/Tetra in tank filter. Its all working out well. With one exception. Water temps are a bit to high and basking temps to low. :p Just backwards of what they need to be. Water is 88 to 92f. While the basking area is a stable 84f. I went and checked Mingo creek the other day and found much the same temps. Scratched my and and reported the finding back to wife. Seems the habitat is matching his wild city life habby.

At any rate. The little turtle has been a joy to have a round. I would have never believed they could be so much fun. Bubba or Bubbet as the case maybe, is a hoot! Personality Ive only seen in a few fish. Its all over the tank. Top to bottom, side to side. Begs for food worse than any fish Ive ever seen. The kicker is the looks and expressions it has. It has this one look that makes me LMAO. Bubba has this look of " And you think you are cool ". Ive never seen anything like it.

Here is a short vid. of Bubba and his tank taken last week.

We have a empty 55g to move Bubba into as it grows. But now we are thinking about getting a Southern Paint and moving them to the 75g in the living room.

The little turtle has been a joy to have around. And I!!!! Would have NEVER thought keeping a turtle or two to be so much fun and interesting.

Psy, watch Bubba/ette's claws and tail as he/she grows. A male's claws will get very long and his tail will get very thick compared to a female's. I know because I was given 2 RES' in '06. After checking out a bunch of books, I found one that describes both of mine to a T. They are fun and funny.

Have a good time with yours. :)

Bubba got mail today.

When we came home there was a small package on the porch sent USPS addressed to Bubba Townsley. Lauras parents sent Bubba two geodes. They had been soaked in bleach. We rinsed them some more and tossed them into his tank.

I wonder if Bubba needs a damn e-mail addy now?

Turtles are addictive. As you've noticed, they have a lot of personality.

My favorite though, was always my alligator snapper. They're not as active as the sliders though.

psy, look at Bubbas belly. If it is concave then its a male. Flat or slightly convex would be a female.

It is slightly concave. And has claws. So maybe a male. Really doesn't matter. Could be a monster sized female and I will keep it tanked up right.
